We went to war sacrificing the lives of our
country's sons, daughters, fathers, and friends. We went to war to
eliminate weapons of mass destruction. We went to war to stop a
"madman" from using weapons of mass destruction. We went to
war to stop these weapons from being made available to terrorists. We
went to war--we found nothing. So where are the weapons and why aren’t we
outraged we did not find them? Our President justified this war by telling the
world that Saddam Hussein had the present ability to use weapons of mass
destruction-the war was not for the purpose of nation building or
removing a dictator from power. War was justified to eliminate a
clear and present danger—one that was apparently neither clear nor
present. So, why aren't we outraged? Throughout this war, the President shifted the
objective of the war from eliminating weapons of mass destruction to
removing a dictator from power—finding and eliminating weapons took a
back seat. After all, we cannot eliminate something that does not
exist. So why aren’t we outraged? Republicans in Washington wanted us to be
outraged over Monica Lewinsky. As a result, the President was impeached.
Republicans in Washington wanted us to be outraged over Whitewater. As a
result, Ken Starr spent millions. Why aren’t we outraged over a lie to justify
war? Neither Monica Lewinski nor Whitewater rises to the seriousness of
going to war over a lie. Right now, it appears someone lied to us about
these weapons; we went to war to find weapons that did not exist. So why aren’t we outraged? War costs lives. Why aren’t we outraged that
this President cost the lives of our sons, daughters, and families in a
search of weapons that do not exist. If there are no weapons of mass destruction, it
is time for the President to admit weapons do not exist. It is time for
the President to "shoot straight.” It is time for us to know that
this war was not about weapons. Maybe someone lied to the President, maybe
someone misinterpreted intelligence, maybe we were just wrong.
Regardless, it is time for the President to "shoot straight with
us.” It is time for the President to admit he was wrong. It is time to
admit the weapons did not exist and that Hussein did not have the
ability to use them. It is time for the truth. Those who lost family members should demand the
truth. As each day goes by without the answers,
Americans should become outraged, outraged at what this President did to
justify war, outraged that this President “felt good” when the first
bombs dropped, outraged that people died to find weapons that do not
exist. So--why aren't we outraged? Stuart James
